Scenes from the Grocery

Every week our family goes grocery shopping together, usually on Sunday afternoon. It's become a pretty fun outing, unless our soon-to-be two year old determines otherwise. But most of the time we all love it. Our daughter loves it because of all the things she can attempt to knock off the shelves, although I make it challenging for her. I'm not sure if that's teaching her to stop, or if it just makes the few successes seem that much sweeter. Also, grocery carts turn into spaceships, motorboats, and racecars -- something Bethan and I may enjoy as much, or more, than our daughter. But I've been noticing something quite often when we go to the grocery store...

The Typology of Fatherhood

Typology, especially in reference to Scripture, is the study of "types" or symbols as they relate to their fulfillment. So you can refer to the good king David as a "type" of Christ insofar as he is pointing to the ultimate benevolent kingship of Jesus. Well, this article will not be a study on the different Dads you see throughout Scripture -- so I'm sort of hijacking the term. But I did want to discuss how fatherhood, in every day life, has a typology of sorts. And when we celebrate Father's Day, it's good to be mindful of it.
