We think that these books are helpful for understanding God, his Word, his church, his mission, and the world.

TOTAL CHURCH, Tim Chester & Steve Timmis. This book paints a picture of church that is beautiful and challenging. It is a must read for anyone desiring to see the clear intersection of faith and life. |
LET THE NATIONS BE GLAD, John Piper "Mission exists because worship does not." Piper does well to convince his readers of the absolute necessity for Christians to take the gospel to the ends of the earth, for God's glory and our joy. |
WHEN SINNERS SAY "I DO", Dave Harvey. This is simply one of the best books I have read about marriage. An honest look at the reality of two sinners living under one roof. |
|
A PRAYING LIFE, Paul Miller. "Private, personal prayer is one of the last great bastions of legalism." I have trouble praying. This book gave me hope. Miller helps us all by pointing us away from our false perceptions of what prayer is, and equips us to look to Jesus in prayer. |
KNOWING GOD, J.I. Packer. I'm not sure there is any other living English author that I'd rather read. Packer is clear, warm, and theologically sound. There is a reason why new and old Christians have read this book for years. |
THE PRODIGAL GOD, Timothy Keller. "This book has revealed every 'older-brother' tendency in my life." My brother told me that over the phone, so I knew I had to read it. Keller uses the parable of the prodigal son to highlight the lavish love of God. |
|
You Can Change, Tim Chester Quite apart from the self-help gurus and positive-thinking pundits of our day, Chester teaches his readers how God intends to change us in a gospel-centered way. |
God is the Gospel, John Piper Would you be satisfied if you went to heaven, but God wasn't there? Piper uses this book to answer the question: What is the ultimate end of the "good news"? God himself is our reward. |
According to Plan, Grame Goldsworthy So many of us understand little snippets of scripture, ignoring the broader storyline of Scripture. If you read this book, your whole worldview will change. We are inside of God's story. |
|
Death by Love, Mark Driscoll The leadership and members of Trinity Church desire to see the gospel change everything in life. Driscoll shows us all how the gospel intersects and transforms the graphic, often heart-wrenching realities of our fallen world. |
The Deliberate Church, Mark Dever Many churches are looking for a good program or method to boost their attendance. This book argues that we do not need such a thing. We need Jesus and his Word. This book covers very helpful subjects like church leadership, membership, discipline, etc. |
Systematic Theology, Wayne Grudem There are not many stones left unturned in this book. If you have questions about Jesus and Christianity -- here's an outstanding resource. Grudem is extremely easy to read, and he formats this book in such a way that the head knowledge you gain should necessarily affect your heart. |
|
Why We Love the Church, Deyoung & Kluck Deyoung and Kluck address a lot of helpful issues here. I'm not sure how to write a blurb for it. Let's say this: If you've ever wondered how we're supposed to love the church, sinful and ugly as it can be, this could be a good read for you. Jesus loves his people, and there is hope in that for us all. |
The Message of the Old Testament, Mark Dever An overview of the entire Old Testament? Yep. Dever has done the church a huge favor by compiling his own studies on each book. |
The Message of the New Testament, Mark Dever Dever did not stop with the Old Testament. If you're looking to add an overview of each book of the New Testament to your library, look no further. |
|
The Reason for God, Tim Keller Keller has an uncanny ability to address and answer relevant questions in an intelligent, yet accessible, manner. He brings his pastoral insight from decades of ministry in New York City to help people understand how Jesus answers some of our generations biggest questions. |
Biblical Eldership, Alexander Strauch In many churches, elders have begun to look more like CEOs than shepherds. Strauch helps his readers understand what God's word prescribes concerning the office of elder. |
40 Questions About Interpreting the Bible, Robert Plummer The most important thing a Christian can learn is how to understand the Bible. This book covers it all. How does genre affect our reading of certain texts? How was the Bible made? This book is the result of scholar's wit and a pastor's heart. |
